5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started My Blog

November 17, 2014

Hi Loves!

I began the journey of xoChrisse.com a year and a half ago and it has been a crazy, in a good way, ride. I've made plenty of mistakes, and still do, but with time comes wisdom. I wanted to put a list of a few things I wish I knew when I started my blog to help out.
1. Set a Schedule and Stick to it

If you plan on posting 7 days a week, that's fab. (Go on with ya bad blogger self) But honestly, that isn't realistic or easy. Choose the days out of the week you plan on posting to your blog and stick with it. This way your readers, say every Mon/Wed/Fri, know when to expect new posts.

2. Don't be Afraid to Reach Out to Others

When starting a blog it takes a good amount of time to develop a following and reputation, so it could be a while before brands and pr agencies are flooding your inbox. Is there an event you want to attend? Blogger you'd like to collaborate with? Ask questions or just introduce yourself.. Don't hesitate to reach out, you'd be surprised with the amount of positivity you get in return.

3. Put all of your contacts in one place.

You are going be in contact with and meeting a lot of people through your blog. Start a spreadsheet and put in everyone's emails/names/phone numbers/titles in it. This way when you need to contact someone you've met in the past, you don't have to pray their business card is still in the blue clutch you were wearing when you met them. (I've been there before, it's stressful.)

4. Invest in a Good Quality Camera

When I stated xoChrisse I depended on my iPhone camera to take all of my pictures and, trust me, that got old REALLY fast. It's the worst when your battery dies in the middle of an event or when all of your pictures are of low quality. I'm not suggesting you spend an obscene amount of money on a camera but you should definitely invest in a digital camera with HD quality. Your blog will look so much more professional with high quality photos.

5. Be Patient

I would be lying to you if I said it only takes a few posts to become a big name blogger, because it doesn't. It could take years before you start getting the traffic, exposure, or income you'd like. You just have to be patient and be passionate about your blog because hard work pays off over time.

Have any tips or advice? Comment below, I'd love to hear from you!
