Winterize Your Nails

December 9, 2014

Hi Loves!

Winter is fast approaching and I don't know about your nails, but mine are already rebelling against the cold months ahead (at least what I consider being cold in Miami).

I've collaborated with one of my favorite beauty brands, Julep, to help walk you through Winterizing Your Nails and keeping them Stylish and Healthy for the Winter season.

First I filed my nails down because they were getting crazy long and starting to break easily. I usually where my nails in a square-ish shape but I decided to switch it up and go with an oval shape.

Next it was time for me to take care of my unruly cuticles. Julep has an amazing Cuticle sofetener & remover that you should definitely try if you haven't already.

I've been wanting to try a DIY I ran across on Pinterest so I headed down to my kitchen to mix up a DIY cuticle & hand scrub (I did a quick facial with it too, shhh) with things I already had in my kitchen.

Here's the recipe!

Ingredients
1/2 of an Sour Orange
1 TSP Brown Sugar
1 TSP Baking Soda
1 TBL Olive Oil
Small Mixing Bowl

Directions
1. Squeeze half of an Orange into the bowl
2. Combine the Brown Sugar, Baking Soda, and Olive Oil with the Orange.
3. Mix together with a spoon until you have a blended oil.
(optional) 4. Microwave for 20 seconds.

[Feel free to add or substitute any ingredient for one you prefer to this DIY, like Honey or Oats.]

You want to rub the oil mixture onto your nail beds and leave it on for 5-10 minutes

After about 10 minutes, I washed off the oil (and rubbed my hands together for ten more, soooo soft) and got removing my cuticles with a cuticle cutter, be careful not to over cut. With a quick wash of my hands, I applied nail hardener and got to fun part!

Julep has these beautiful nail polishes that are on trend for the Winter season, and it was really hard to decide which to go with. I always try and stray from what I normally but of course I stuck with the classic nude "Shari". I applied two coats and literally cant stop looking at it! (I've gotten so many compliments on it too).

To keep your nail beds from drying out you should regularly apply Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum or Vaseline to keep them moisturized.

Make sure you visit Julep and check out their entire nail polish color range (also available at Sephora) here. They also have an amazing program where you can receive a box of goodies every month.
